French HADOPI law ‘finally’ passed

With several months of delay and despite the (hard) opposition from leftwing parties and some consumers’ associations, the French internet law aimed to fight illegal piracy nicknamed HADOPI has finally passed in parliament this past Wednesday, enabling ISPs (under HADOPI) to block the consumer’s Internet access after the consumer being three times warned of illegally file sharing on the Internet copyrighted content.

HADOPI bill of law favoring the diffusion and protection of creation on Internet”, regulating and controlling the usage of Internet in order to enforce the compliance to the copyright law.

“HADOPI” is the acronym for (in French) ‘Haute Autorité pour la Diffusion des Œuvres et la Protection des Droits sur Internet’ which means the High Authority of Diffusion of the Art Works and Protection of the (Copy)Rights on Internet. HADOPI is aimed at favoring the diffusion and protection of content online (on Internet), regulating and controlling the usage of Internet enabling a clear enforcement policy of the copyright law.
